Education & Training

A major emphasis at The Center for Dirt and Gravel Road Studies is to provide education and outreach to entities involved in the maintenance of unpaved roads. The two main avenues for providing this education is through the 2-day "Environmentally Sensitive Maintenance of Dirt and Gravel Roads (ESM) Training" and the annual Dirt and Gravel Road Maintenance Workshop. The Center also continually carries out smaller scale education and outreach efforts such as field demo days, project tours, presentations, and technical assistance visits.

Training attendees evaluate road condtions in the rain.

2-day ESM Training
The Center maintains and provides an on-site 2-day training course entitled "Environmentally Sensitive Maintenance(ESM) of Dirt and Gravel Roads". The ESM training provides basic knowledge and tools necessary to maintain roads in a more cost-efficient and environmentally sensitive manner. The training is directed towards Municipalities, the Bureau of Forestry, and others entities responsible for unpaved road maintenance. More...
